In May 2022, we were lucky enough to capture Hayley and Greg’s wedding film for their gorgeous spring wedding at Penshurst Place.

Penshurst Place is a magnificent 14th century Manor House and Gardens, once the property of Henry VIII, it now stands as a premier Kent wedding venue.  Whilst the house is a big draw the gardens (especially in Spring and Summer) are just beautiful and give us so many beautiful backdrops when creating wedding films for our couples.

Greg and Hayley met by chance in Tunbridge Wells, a spark fired instantly and their relationship blossomed quickly.   After a whirlwind romance, they got engaged.  They chose Penshurst Place as they loved to visit and were very impressed by Nikki and her team.  They booked 2 years ahead so that they could save up for their dream wedding!

Hayley arrived in style with her parents in a stunning horse and carriage. She looked amazing in a beautiful dress with a sweetheart neckline and a great fish tail shape that gave her a fantastic silhouette.  Bridesmaids wore purple which was a theme that ran through out the wedding from the groom’s party ties, to the flowers, to the decorations.

Hayley and Greg chose to have an outdoor ceremony at Penshurst Place’s Inner Courtyard.  Secluded from the public and hidden between the ancient walls of the house, the courtyard is framed by colourful roses and scented peonies.  A dreamy setting for a wedding.  A harpist played as guests arrived and seated themselves ready for the off!

Hayley was walked down the aisle by her dad to meet Greg and guests were delighted by the ring was delivered by an owl (who performed his duties perfectly).  After a beautiful ceremony everybody enjoyed a drinks reception on the lawn and guests were entertained by a caricaturist and a magician.

As guests happily mingled, we accompanied Steve Barbour (photographer) who whisked Hayley and Greg away for a few minutes for a romantic photoshoot around the beautiful gardens and grounds of Penshurst Place.  The weather was perfect and Hayley and Greg were so laidback to work with.  It was one of our favourite parts of the day.  It’s always lovely to work with other professionals in the wedding industry and we enjoyed working with the very talented Steve Barbour who was the wedding photographer on the day.

When we returned, it was time for the wedding reception which was being held in Penshurst Place’s majestic Baron’s Hall.  This breath-taking medieval room is like something straight of a fairy-tale or Game of Thrones.  The impressive 60 feet high original chestnut beamed ceiling has to be seen to be believed.  On arrival, Hayley and Gregg were warmly greeted by their guests before everybody enjoyed a fantastic wedding breakfast and some very well received speeches.

After the meal, as guests happily milled about, we went for a stroll again around the grounds and got some lovely footage of Hayley and Greg in the gardens.  We love this time of day at weddings, when the sun is low creating a soft lighting and when all of the formalities are out of the way and couples are just enjoying the moment.

Evening celebrations started with the cutting of the wedding cake made by Purple Flour.  This was followed by a romantic first dance.  We loved the way the Baron’s Hall was candle lit after dark, it created a really warm and cosy ambience that really suited Hayley and Greg’s wedding.

This wedding really did have it all and we especially loved capturing the sparkler serenade followed by the fantastic fireworks.  Which was something Greg had arranged to surprise Hayley.  And it was the footage of Hayley and Greg underneath the fireworks with all of their guests behind them that was the perfect shot to close the story of their amazing wedding day.

A gorgeous fun laid back wedding full of love, laughter and a few surprises.  We’ll leave the last words to them.  Here’s what they said about working with us.

“Cut Above filmed our wedding on 14 May 2022 at Penshurst Place and what an amazing job they did too.  Carol and Dan were so easy to work with made us feel at ease.  Our photographer Steve had not met them before and they all worked together so well, as if they had all know each other for years, so we did not need to concern ourselves that they would get in each other’s way.

Carol also agreed to stay on later than agreed, as my lovely other half had booked surprise fireworks, which were filmed beautifully.

Our package included a short video montage so we could share it with family from abroad who were unable to make it to our wedding. When we watched it, it bought back so many wonderful memories, the film was perfect at showing in a few minutes our special day. Our family who we passed it on to also thought it was amazing and very well put together.  Then came our full video, I cried, happy tears of course. My mum cried too. It was so lovely to be reminded of our day in such a great video.

Thank you so much for helping our day go so smoothly and for a fabulous video.”
